When manufacturers go too far and become inappropriate

As one of the primary buyers for our online children’s boutique, I strive to find products that are fun, unique and empower both boys and girls and counters the constant labeling in our society of what girls and boys SHOULD wear. I am thrilled when we discover products that express childrens spirit and individuality and challenges the mainstream but being mindful that many children still love princesses, trucks, horses, and pirates (or any other category that is usually marketed to one gender or the other.)

Recently I’ve come across products on the market that just make me crazy because they are marketed to children, specifically girls. As the mother of two daughters, I originally founded Polkadot Patch because I was sick and tired of pink and princesses for my daughters. I still am … but I do value pink more for the beauty of the color and not the stereotypes that it represents to so many. And while my daughters are more into fairies than princesses, I still think there is some magic to the princess-ideal beyond the packaged Disney princess (but that is another soapbox.)

When I see products that try to purposely degrade girls I rage with the indignity of what some manufacturers think is approproiate in the guise of the almighty dollar. Products like the ones I am going to share have nothing to do with fashion but only serve to devalue and degrade females.

I will note that I have heard some of these products are fakes…but STILL…they have at least had a prototype made. And sadly, the Hollister shirts, are the real thing.

Would you dress your teenage daughter in these?

Really, tassels on a baby girl's breasts? Seriously?

Heard this was a hoax but even that someone had the concept makes me sick
